From Beginning to End

From Beginning to End

When we speak in finite terms, the beginnings and the ends in this life seem clear cut.  However, we all learn very quickly that this is just not so.  Actually what seems to be one finite beginning to one finite ending imposes itself on the very next beginning and ending!  They are all a mesh linking together and actually extend one right into another.  The ending of one leads us into a new beginning of our journey.  But we must experience each and every one to complete what we call our life.  I really believe God knew we could not handle it all at once.  That is where His great unconditional love comes in.  So slow down this week!  Recognize and understand where you are on these beginning and ending journeys.  Most importantly relish it and appreciate it for what it is and why you are there.  See the ones you are traveling with and know they are all great blessings to you.  But don’t get comfy because a new end and new beginning are right around the corner!

Tears of Change

Tears of Change

Change is a difficult circumstance to handle, yet that is truly living life.  Even though we know growth, learning, and joy usually are results of change, we sometimes fight so strongly to be big and handle all the changes by ourselves.  Our physical bodies have pains and hurts.  I don’t know about you but I shed tears with these changes.  In my culture, we were taught that tears can be a sign of weakness, but I absolutely have learned that tears become hope and belief.  There is no sign of weakness when a person comes before God to let Him know how much you need Him.  This week let those tears roll over your cheeks like a waterfall!  God is big enough to catch them all and turn them into the biggest rainbow you could ever imagine!

Tears of Change

My tear tumbles down my cheek.

It is like pearls breaking and falling slowly to the ground.

The tear rest upon my chest as my sorrow wells.

I don’t want God to see me cry.

I want Him to know I have faith.

I do have faith that He has all in His hands.

But the emotions of my heart stream forth like a wound just opened.

I know You gave me these emotions.

But so many times they just get away from me.

They open up like a bloom exposing its scent to the world.

My soul pops open releasing it hurt.

It knows change is coming.

It is afraid and scared.

The one change doesn’t cause this sorrow.

It is the change after change after change.

It happens when the changes are so close together.

And they keep coming.

And my soul says no more!

I am not telling God no more.

I am saying I am tired.

Of course He knows.

I cry more and more.

I sometimes wail when no one is listening.

Not because God is not there,

But because He is listening.

He catches my tears and feeds them to the sun.

It is then when I see the rainbow that I know hope is here.

I cannot thank you enough for reading with me this week.  I pray tears and joy come to life so you can grow and learn.  Just remember you are never alone!  My love to you!

Songs of the Soul

Songs of the Soul

Recently as I listened back to some of my good old 70’s music by Jim Croce, I was reminded that we all have a story to tell.  Nothing can get one more inspired than a good old 70’s tune!  And with the new birth of everything outside—grass greening, birds returning, flowers reaching for the sun again—I just wished for all of us to be more willing to tell our stories.  So many people have so many things they have lived through and strive for, but most of the time the stories that go out online or in the media are not inspiring stories.  I really believe there are more of us each day that are doing good things and treating others with dignity and love than ever hits the media realm.  So I want today’s writing to encourage you to tell your story.  It does not have to be in writing, it could be anyway!  Just tell it!  You never know how God is using you with your story to help someone else.  Help this world be one that does hold us tight with love and joy.  It will become contagious if we share it!

Songs of the Soul

The sun rises above the hills and trees.

The shadows give way to light.

The small specks of green begin to creep out from the browns of the cold.

She yearns to move past the walls into the fields.

The light brings warmth to her body and her soul.

Birds flip and sing to greet the warmth.

She can smell the various floral scents from the flowers that have awakened.

Buds pop forth and release their fragrance.

She wraps her sweater tightly.

She slips into the light,

Faces the sun to let the warmth cleanse her eyes.

The rays hit her cheeks and she smiles.

Because she knows there is another story to sing.

She believes there are other pictures to paint.

And there are other words to write.

In telling the special story of one’s soul.

She knows there are many stories in the heart to share.

She wants others to share and create their own psalms and songs.

She only wants to sit back and let this ever changing world caress her.

Hold her in its arms.

Accept her for who she is.

And nurture her in who she needs to become.

She wants her soul to sing every verse of every song.

And to let her voice be heard beyond the sky.

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

Tell that story loud this week!  Put your joy out there and just wait for the blessings to come your way.  As always thank you for being with me this week.  I so appreciate you as my loved one on this journey!  Beautiful blessings!

Writing and Living

Writing and Living

Within creative expression, all of life can be brought to the forefront.  One’s life can be observed from the deepest desires to the most minuet descriptions.  Written expression is one way that people can have passion in their lives.  Others use visual arts, build, make wine, play music, bake, or they even do karate!  (yes, my love,  you are creative even though you do not think so!).  As where something seems to be simply stated or something is simply represented, depth of soul can be there.  The simplicity of the creative statement can be the most difficult to interpret.  It really does not matter how the work is perceived by others.  The true beauty of that piece is how it moves and expresses the one invested in its creation.  It is that person who receives the greatest blessing.  Other passer byers will be affected but not to the degree of the creator.  Expression allows one to be free.  Free from the obligations of others, and free from the condemnation of others.  Those truly carrying out creative expression do not need the approval from others.  They simply need to express for their own souls.  Until each person can realize this, one cannot be truly free.  So—-express what you need to in order to the live the way you can most fulfill your life—and your passion!

Writing and Living

You live to write or

You write in order to live.

It does not matter.

For the words show all.

The pain, the joy, the sorrow,

The surprises, the hope, the fear,

The love, the power, the light,

The darkness, the mercy, the comfort,

The security, the unknown, the weak,

The strong, the dreams, the living,

The nows, the tomorrows, the yesterdays.

I will live to write and

I will write to live.

It s does matter.

For the words show more than all.

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

I cannot thank you enough for joining me this week.  My greatest hope is that we together spark conversation and confidence in living our lives.  If not here within the invisible wires, maybe in your real physical circles!  Express, express, express this week!

This week I have to say thanks to a very special man in my life who taught me how working with your hands and your heart can be creative.  That is my dad, Jimmie.  He celebrates his 80th birthday this next week, and I am so glad I have been blessed to have him with me.  I am so glad God gave me to Jim and Em.  Happy Birthday, Jim!  I love you.

Journey

The Last Breath

The Last Breath

It has been three years since Em, my Mom, left this Earth physically.  I created today’s writing about a year after her passing.  When a person has so much influence on your life, it is hard to let go.  I will never forget the doctor saying we have worked all we can and we cannot do anything else.  I also will never forget my response.  I said, “But you don’t understand I have had her for only 55 years.  I don’t want to let go.”  And that was so very true, see it was all about me not Em.  I was being selfish which I know is human nature, but I needed to let Em complete her living.  See Em did not just give me life, she taught me how to really live life.

She loved a party or celebration!  We always had great meals and decorations for all holidays and special occasions.  She showed me the world filled with all the arts.  From the Parthenon, the only museum we had at the time, to the Ryman filled with music.  She exposed me to all types of literature, especially prose.  She taught me to appreciate the Earth and all it can produce, especially the flowers of the fields!  She showed me how to pray and set with someone waiting to be healed.  She demonstrated sympathy to those who lost loved ones and comforted those left behind with love.  I watched as she worshiped God, and even though we were not wealthy I watched her provide and give to others.  She taught me how to be independent and free as a woman.  She showed me how to care for people physically by taking care of my most important gifts on this Earth, my children.  And even in her last weeks as she was in pain we did not know about due to the Alzheimer’s, she showed me how a mother always protects her offspring.  But the most important lesson she gave me was on how to die.  She showed me how to have dignity and accept God’s hand into heaven with comfort and peace.

All of this to say, if  you, family, or friends are having to face or have had to face death recently, remember it is about that person and not about you.  It is about what they have given to you, and what God now wants them to give in heaven.  It is not about the past, but about how God purposefully used them to influence you. And how you use that influence to fulfill your living.  Our experience was a simple breath.  It was not angels swooping down or doves floating near her or clouds and lights.  She simply experienced a peaceful breath.  No matter how that experience happens, and even though it is the hardest thing to do, when you are allowed to experience it with them you are being given a glimpse into glory!  Embrace it and live it!  Not for you, but for them!

The Last Breath

It seems as real today as it was yesterday.

So vivid—so clear.

We really never know when someone will take their last breath.

No one really expects it.

We know it has to happen in order to pass into heaven.

But we are really never ready.

Never ready for the absence of that beloved person.

Never ready to let go of that physical love.

Breath signifies so much in life.

It is movement which means presence.

It is filling because it provides life.

It is warmth.

In the realm that awaits us I really believe it will be so much more.

It will connect us to God’s filling.

It will praise God with all the saints.

It will give peace to our soul.

The last breath here on earth is hard to watch.

The absence of that spirit leaves an emptiness.

Our new breath there will be such a great celebration.

It will signify that life eternally is calm, slow, and rich in grace.

The last breath is the first breath of peace.

This breath allows the spirit to release itself.

Those of us who witness the last breath on earth are blessed.

We are honored to see that loved one’s first breath in heaven.

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

Thanks for your patience in such a lengthy reading this week.  This is just not any quick and easy subject.  I thank you for sharing my journey with me.  And I pray for you and yours that when you experience death, that you can reflect upon this and peace be brought to you.  Thank you again!  Death is not the ending, it is the beginning of the continued journey ahead—-Embrace it!

Family and Tradition

He Is There

He Is There

Loneliness—what a thief! It sneaks upon us in seconds. Especially after times where we have enjoyed friends and family. Or after times where we were able to find enjoyment. When everyone has gone home or you return to an empty house, the culprit sees the opportunity to enter your space. Maybe you don’t find yourself in this situation, but I really believe many of us do. We try to continue our joy and our feelings of blessings, but when we find ourselves in the middle of no one, the thief hits! It tries to steal our happiness and our feelings of joy. I think one of our best defenses against this trespasser is acknowledging and realizing we are never left alone. God is always there. He can always fill the space that the thief tries to occupy. He provides us with these amazing minds that allow for memories and thought patterns, so we can store those wonderful times. So put your smile on and welcome the quiet times, because God is always there! He has given you the power to defeat the thief!

He Is There

Sometimes I just can’t describe what it feels like to be close to God.

The times my heart fills so full that I can’t keep it in!

Or the times joy brings tears to my eyes.

I always know that He is with me.

He is there.

But when I see the faces of my children or grandchildren,

I know He is right there.

When someone sacrifices to give to me when I really don’t deserve it,

He is in them shining through.

He is there.

When I have been delivered from an almost accident.

Or when I say something I should have not said.

Or when I did not say what was on my mind.

When I should be bold and brave.

He is there.

He knows me.

He knows me more than my own soul knows itself.

God fills me up and lifts my soul into the space of the night.

Allowing me to soak in the darkness so that it can change into light.

The emptiness becomes illuminated.

He is there.

He cares for me.

He protects me from myself.

He provides people that love me.

He is always there.

He will always be there.

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

Remember—if you find yourself in that alone spot, there is someone, somewhere that depends on you and your love. And God is there to show you that someone! Reach out today—Stay connected today—God loves you and he has given people to love you! My love goes out to you today. He is always there!

And thank you for reading with me. I hope God has blessed you with our time together!

Forgiven

Forgiven

As humans we find it so much easier to blame than to forgive. Our nature and emotions jump on a rampage and want to blame everyone or anything for our discomfort or dissatisfaction. And usually we are talking about just forgiving one person. I can’t even imagine what it would feel like to forgive an entire human race. This is probably why it is such a miracle! Because the human physical makeup is just not as open as the spiritual genetic makeup is to forgiveness. You know we celebrate our Easter as the event of resurrection and life, but the bottom line is our Easter is all about forgiveness. Just imagine if every practicing Christian or spiritual person would forgive one person this Easter Sunday morning—how uplifting and resurrected this world really would be! So rise like God’s miracle and forgive!

 Forgiven

Forgive me,

Please Lord.

Forgive me.

When my selfish ways come out.

When I forget the sacrifice of You and others.

Please forgive me.

When I forget the moments that are heaven here.

When I forget Your love comes through others.

Forgive me, Lord.

When I take for granted Jesus and his pain.

When I forget the Spirit.

Forgive me.

When the hope I desire is not You in my heart but hope in something else.

When I let the darkness overtake my joy.

Please dear Lord, forgive me.

When I deny You.

When I turn from You.

When I forget who You are.

Forgive me.

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

I hope you find it in your heart to forgive someone this week. And most of all if you have not forgiven yourself, start there. True healing really happens when we start within.

Thank you for being with me this week. I pray for blessings upon you and your family at such an amazing season!

Happy Easter! Thank you God!

Rennae

Who Am I?

Who Am I

We all wrestle with this question. And usually not just once in our lifetime but many times. It is difficult to stay true to yourself with so many external variables. This is God’s freedom for us. This freedom is difficult many times, but what a wonderful thing! The freedom of choice. However, you are probably like me. I sometimes want God to give me the pattern for the tapestry I am making. He is so clever! He says here are your parameters—now use your beautiful gifts to create the majesty! And so the questions begin. And the questioning is good. The more questions you ask, the more reveals you discover. And of course these reveals lead to more questions. All of this—weaving the tapestry of your life. So don’t be afraid. Ask yourself, “Who Am I?”, and then weave to find out!

Who Am I?

 Are you your mother’s child?

Or do you sometimes feel you would not be.

Do you have your father’s ways?

Or have you watched so much you have adopted your father?

We have to ask this question to become who we need to be.

It cannot really be who am I?

It is really who I am becoming.

I cannot become by myself.

It takes mother, father, family, friends, and the Holy Spirit to become.

I cannot fear, but I must use faith for the future to become.

God laid the frame and has given me the choice to weave the tapestry.

What will the tapestry look like?

Will the tapestry be worn in spots?

Will it have bright colors?

Will its design intersect the cloths of others?

Who am I?

I am who I am.

I am all of these.

I am all of these and more.

The thread of the Creator.

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

Thank you for letting me be one of your threads for weaving this week. I so appreciate your company on this journey of life! Blessings in the most Irish way today!                             Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Creating

Creating

Alright!! You caught me!! I played hooky last week and headed to the Nashville Lawn and Garden Show. There could have been no better place to practice this week’s reading. You know we are all born to create. It is our divine purpose. God demonstrated this amazing process to us in the beginning so that we would emulate this process in our own lives. Many people say I can’t create anything, but they don’t understand the meaning of the word or the meaning of the process. At the garden show there were so many creative people. People designing gardens, people doing floral designs, people sharing new inventions, people organizing the lectures, and the list goes on! Some people are creative with numbers and some with words. Others create cakes or furniture. While other people create organizations and mergers. The list is endless! So stop and think before you say you cannot create. Identify what you create. Name what you create. And own what you create! We are all such unique and creative people. It can be very difficult to create because it hurts emotionally. Don’t let your insecurities hold you back from God’s intention for you. Now—Go—CREATE!!

Creating

 When we create,

We go deep inside ourselves.

To a place that is hidden even from the soul.

A place where we will not even let those we love come in.

Whether it be pictures, laughter, buildings.

Whether it be meals, words, problems, or solutions.

We go deep, deep inside.

For those that choose not to tap into this level,

It is hard to understand why the creator hesitates to share.

Sharing exposes everything.

Sharing makes us vulnerable.

Sharing exposes what is felt the deepest.

That’s why the creator waits so long.

The sharing soothes the souls of others.

But the one creating still hurts.

Because it takes deep commitment to create.

It takes courage and bravery.

It takes persistence.

The creation may be accepted or it may be rejected.

Creations are not easily made.

Creating is painful.

Creating is digging into the soul for that one special creation.

Creating takes joyful.

Creating shows ones’ weaknesses.

Creating can shows ones’ strengths.

No one knows how the pain comes and goes for the creator.

How the pain stays in their mind.

How with each breath,

The creator has to fight for the creation.

The creation has to win.

Because the alternative is to lose one’s soul.

And to lose one’s soul means to lose the creating.

 Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

With spring upon us what better time to explore our personal creating. Reach out and go for it! I hope you are led this week to create and share your creation with the world! Thank you for letting me share mine with you!   Happy spring creating!

Love,

Rennae

Just Be

Just Be

What time is the next meeting? Did I pick up the birthday gift? We need eggs—when can I stop at store to get those? Is there enough gas to pick up and get home? Did I get the wash out into the dryer? Does all of this sound way too familiar? It does to me. Do you just catch yourself running from one moment to another without a breath? I know I do. Well, we just need to all evaluate how rich this type of life can be. Are we really participating in “real living” or are we just checking the list to get it all done? Are we interacting in a genuine way with all of God’s children or are we brushing them off in order to move on to the next check off? But most of all are you brushing yourself off? Today I say,”STOP!”. You are God’s most precious resource. You cannot help others and you can especially not help yourself if you are not still, rested, and listening. You can do this! Find some amount of time, no matter how small, and put yourself on the check off list. When you do you will feel like you gained an extra day in the week. Most of all you will be able to accomplish your God given purpose in a more beautiful and meaning way!

 Just Be

It comes to me in the night.

When the sounds are quiet.

The sleet gently taps on the windows.

I know the wind hears me cry because the chimes tingle.

It come to me as I search for peace.

When I ask God to save me.

My heart can be felt beating through my skin.

I know my soul feels different.

It comes to me as the light makes its way to the page I write on.

When my thoughts reach for smiles of a happy time.

My eyes get heavier yearning for the deep sleep.

I know because the words come out as they should.

It comes to me beneath the soft comfy.

When my legs are warm.

But my shoulders are slightly chilled.

I know because of the comfort I feel knowing where I am.

It comes to me as the smell of the coffee makes its way across the kitchen.

As I taste the smooth yogart when the birds search for their food outside.

When my mind is fresh and open.

I know because my hope comes through for the day.

It comes to me.

I don’t know why or how.

But it is there.

A touch to my soul.

One that caresses my spirit.

It comes to me and says, “Be still and know.”

It says, “Be quiet and listen.”

It says, “Stop and concentrate.”

It says, “Just be.”

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

Thank you so much for using your time with me this week. And if this is your few moments to yourself, when you finish reading, just sit and be with God and yourself. Don’t feel guilty. You must care for all of God’s children, and that includes you! I pray for quiet, peace, and listening for you this week.

Love,

Rennae
