Who I Really Am….

Who I am

I love celebrations! I have a birthday this week! I am so excited! I have found over the years that I really need to describe who I am for myself, not necessarily for anyone else. When we write down all the qualities that we display or know about ourselves, it helps us to grow. We can examine strengths and weaknesses. I like to call it an “inner selfie”! Unfortunately many times we only do this at our birth or our physical death. And at those two times the process is usually carried out by others. So I thought—Yes!—I need to see me and celebrate this birthday! I hope you find the courage to write about yourself and celebrate who you really are! By the way—Happy Birthday!—Everyday! Let’s celebrate who we are!!

Who I Really Am….

 I am a proud woman.

A woman from the South.

Yes, a Southern belle who finds her ancestors are a true part of her.

The Irish temper and passion.

The English order and honor.

I am round with curly hair.

I have skinny fingers and ankles.

My complexion is beautiful!

With laugh lines and cry lines.

The Southern heart of compassion, love, and honesty.

I am a woman who has lived.

One who has no regrets.

And one who looks to the future with hope and faith.

A woman of old convictions and of new directions.

A woman who loves her family.

I am a woman who cares deeply for her family.

I am the most proud of my children who have always been and are incredible people.

I have sinned and ask forgiveness.

I am a woman who has made mistakes.

But I am a woman who has tried to live right.

I find comfort in flowers and their textures and smells.

I love the smell of hyacinths and dirt in the spring.

A woman who loves the motion of water

And what it provides as I take a hot shower or a cool deep plunge into the pool.

I am a blessed woman that found her soul mate when she was young.

I was and am the daughter of loving parents that provided everything they could for her.

I am a Southern woman that loves art and all its colors.

I can stare at Monet or Marjoline Bastin all day.

I love books, china tea cups, shells, and skulls.

I am a Southern woman that loves nature and wildlife,

Especially deer, birds, bunnies, and puppies.

I find rocks totally amazing with their shapes and forms!

I am a woman who is amazed at the stars in the winter sky.

I love every season and how it gives me a reason to decorate and celebrate!

I am a woman that loves new experiences

And can be entertained by the simplest things.

I have a sensitive heart with a caring personality.

I love people.

I know who you are when I meet you and shake your hand—

That comes from my Granny Jones.

I know no strangers—

That comes from my Mama and Daddy.

I am totally right brained,

But I organize to hide that.

I am a perfectionist.

I don’t always focus well

And my mind likes to swirl around to different things.

I love a pen and paper where I can write.

I am a child of God and a follower of Jesus Christ.

I am sometimes frightened and scared,

Not always knowing why.

But when it comes to dying, I feel safe.

I love a great love story.

A Southern woman with a Southern drawl.

I am very innocent when I live life

Because I want to experience it all for the first time every

time.

I have a great passion for my purpose.

I was an exceptional educator

I am a dedicated worker.

I am a vessel in which my Creator can use for His purpose.

You can accept who I am or not,

But most importantly I will accept myself.

My soul was before this world,

And my soul will continue afterwards.

I am not just a proud woman,

I am a proud person!

No! I am a proud soul!

Existing within eternity through my Creator!

This is really who I am!

Journey

The Ghost

The Ghost

We have this enormous white birch tree on our hill leading to our pond/wetland (better known as the frogs’ home!). I really never appreciated this particular species of tree until I started watching this particular one live from year to year. Its absence of color makes it the most spectacular portrait! It stands out against all the other colors that are shown by nature changing over the seasons. I have learned how delicate it can be and how strong it can be. I have seen it nourish other living things, and I have seen it give life through seeds and roots. There is one thing for sure, it is always there—constant and steady. This beautiful tree reminds me of some of the people in my life that have been constant and steady. People I could and can always seek for strength, encouragement, and love. So if you have not—go and hug your tree today! “The Ghost” that breaths wind into your life and allows the colors in your world to burst forth!

 The Ghost

The background is blue.

A blue that is bright and light.

The white skin pops against the blue canvas.

The white, pasty arms show the signs of growing and living.

The cracky flakes display the effects of the wind and the water and the sun.

The sounds of the ghost are soft,

But constant as the winds swiftly move by.

In the dark the ghost makes it sound as a whisper in the air or the blow of a kiss.

Against the dark, grey sky, the figure fades into the grey wash.

Then within a season of change,

The once obscure figure pounces forward with multiple greens.

The ghost feels a burst of revival as it displays one shade of green after another.

Birds find a home within its arms,

And insects discover their haven within its body.

As the ghost grows, the greens turn to gold, brown, and orange against a crisp cloud in the sky.

The gold, bronze, and orange drop to unveil the naked beauty beneath.

Another moment has past,

And another year has gone.

And the Ghost continues to breath the wind,

And paint the sky with its life and soul.

Lay of the Land

Lay of the LandThe weather has revealed truly everything on the Earth’s surface over the past weeks. Relaxing across this massive amount of stone and dirt is everything we know as living. It is funny how any other time of the year we are not as tuned into the magical world supporting this amazing living ball. It is really like people. People have been pressed, molded, and structured in their various environments to appear in certain forms or ways, whether to show a physical form or a behavioral form–Most of the time by other people. We forget like the lay of the land, we all have internal spiritual forces sculpturing, molding, and forming these unique souls we each possess. A nurturing external environment is important and a must for all of us, but even more important is allowing our spirit to be nurtured by our divine Creator. Sit back and enjoy the squeezing, pressing, and shaping as the art piece inside of you is revealed!

Lay of the Land

It is there all along,

But it is hidden during the year.

When the white blanket covers everything,

The lay of the land appears.

Curves and heights.

Bumps and rumps.

Lines that are straight.

And lines that move in and out.

Each tree and each rock lays upon it.

In their own special birthing place.

Everything stands out

And can be seen in its own special way.

Whoever knew charcoal, grey, brown,

Beige, and black could have so many shades!

You can see how rich the valley is

And how glorious the hills appear!

Occasionally throughout the muted colors,

A burst of deep green will flash as a cedar or pine surprises you!

To think this lay of the land has been molded

And has been shaped to make this impressive display.

Pressed, compacted, and stroked to make this magnificent view.

The forces working slowly

But specifically to allow us a view at this art piece.

Pressure squeezing rock and dirt to form the base where life springs forth!

The forces will continue working

So the lay of the land will be there for others to extract joy.

Providing imaginations a place to create.

The lay of the land can lead to a discovery at home

Or to any adventure past the hills!

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

Thank you for being open this week to the greatest discoveries that can be found within yourself. Especially for following along and reading with me this week. Don’t hold the art piece in this week-As a very special Disney character has said over recent years-Let it go!!

The First Snow Fall

The First Snow FallIt is very amazing that each particle can be so unique and different, yet come together for such an incredible scene. If only we could accept how we as individuals are very much the same way. Each one of us is so very unique! Just stop and think—no one in the entire world or universe has your genetic material nor your special soul. You are so very special! And you are in this world with your very own special purpose, direction, and gifts—making the world scene more incredible than it could ever be! Please stay unique and special!

The First Snow Fall

 Each one is different.

Everyone has its specific place.

Everyone travels at a specific time.

What if each one were blue?

Would we see a blue sea?

Or a blue sky? A star? Or the blue in her eyes?

Instead we see a white cloud.

A white field.

A white fog.

The chemical makeup coming from a Creator.

A Creator with an imagination to set each one as an individual.

Each crystal not absorbing the Light but reflecting the Light.

What is each one were black?

Would we see a black night sky?

A sweet blackberry?

Would we not see the Light if there was not black?

How would we know there were fireflies?

Yet they are all white—They all reflect.

Every shape proportionally perfect.

All sides of the shape coming together at the precise points.

Precise points that make a perfect individual.

What if each of these were red?

Would we see a big red leaved tree?

Would we see the breast of a beautiful red bird?

Would we see the red sunset?

What is they were all yellow?

Would we see the sunflower or the yellow Light rising at dawn?

What if they each were brown?

Would we see the brown earth?

Would we see the brown rock?

We are blessed.

Our internal eyes allow us to see all the colors.

To see the reflection.

The red bird perches on the black tree trunk that lightens brown as it grows.

The yellow sun rising gives a back drop to the tree and the sky.

The sky gives way to the blue.

The blue meets the green grass.

The grass meets the still black water.

The still white water bubbles to form the white foam.

Each alike.

Each creating the colors for another.

Each building to make the picture.

Each becoming real.

And the snow continues to fall.

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

I am so blessed to be in this world with such unique people. Thank you for being one of those and sharing your life with me. This is for the “Katies” in the world!

Be who you are and love yourself for your gifts!

Thanks so much for reading with me this week!

True Love

True Love

During this week when cupid raises his (or her) pointed arrow, we most often think of rose petals on silk pillows, candy in the shape of hearts, or bundles of flowers popping from vases. We forget that it is really about love. And love does not always look like a fairy tale. Not a surface love that comes and goes as fast as the holiday itself, but a love that is deep in meaning and satisfies the soul’s yearning. We usually never recognize this type of love, or we remember it after the moment has passed. I was just fortunate to recognize this moment of love one evening as friend’s gathered, had dinner, and experienced rich conversation. I have also been blessed to experience this type of love from my children and with the simple movement of my husband’s hand. This time may never come again, but it was true love. We were all honest and open, sharing our inner fears, joys, and purposes. It happens when your soul can be filled no more. I hope for you this week a true love moment that will enrich your soul. Hold it in your heart and soul forever!

True Love

All the voices in the restaurant really did not matter.

The ones gathered around the table were there to enjoy the spirits of each other.

On this day of love,

They shared stories of death, birth, love, and life.

They could have cared less about other voices surrounding them,

Because they were there to share their souls.

As they shared “passing”,

They could do so with confidence that they knew it would be the next part of the journey.

The others knew the one blessed in “passing” first would guide the others when their journeys changed direction.

Their breaths carried in the air surrounding them with care, concern, and love for each other.

The laughter they shared was with each other and within themselves!

The meal was not a physical observance,

But rather a spiritual observance.

Each one felt that God was absolutely at the table.

As they parted, each one knew they were truly loved.

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

There is a soul out there for every soul. Sometimes people settle for others that are just not right for them. Sometimes people get caught up in themselves and cannot recognize someone else giving love. Be patient if you are waiting for that true love—they are out there for you! Be yourself—don’t try to be for someone else—be for God and that true love will find you!

Happy Valentine’s to my true soul love—Danny! Most of all thanks for the conversations, the silent times, the laughter, the love, the hard times, the commitment, the good times, and the will to love me for who I am.

Thank you so much for reading this week—love to you and yours!

Sky Show

Sky Show

Who said winter is dull and lacks stimulating colors?! All I need do to is to look outside my window on these winter days and see the whole sky come alive! As these incredible creatures flit, flutter, and glide through the sky, I am witness to the most vibrant colors and moves that can ever be seen. What I find the most amazing is the demonstration of trust shown by these creatures. They do not worry. They know they will be fed—especially by me! They know how unique they are and will gladly show those specific characteristics—woodpeckers for instance! They know they are part of a community with each having a specific purpose. Take a peak out your window during this seemingly dull time—relax, enjoy the show, and ponder on your purpose!

Sky Show

They trust so freely.

Never doubt.

They are not afraid to show who they are.

They are an art show outside the window.

Touches of red, gold, yellow, black, and white.

All shape.

All sizes.

All with full trust in God and his provision.

They praise Him with song and dance.

They sit and share the meal.

The mix of colors against the blue sky brighten the cold, bitter day.

They know no difference.

They know and trust that they are provided for by their maker.

Each unique.

Each with a message.

Pure creations of the Majesty from above.

The sky show goes on!

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

May your week be filled with surprises of color and song! Your purpose is specific also. Be unique, but be strong! Thank you so much for reading with me this week. I am honored to be sharing your time.

Looking Beyond

Looking Beyond

It is very difficult to love everyone. We say we want to, but when reality sets in there are those we cannot bring ourselves to love. Even though this is a human thing which is why we are not like God, our purpose should be to strive for this type of love. Past the barriers, past the differences, past the difficulties, and past the hurts, you should not deny anyone your spiritual love. As we have honored Dr. King within the last week, I pray that we are not just still trying to have the dream, but that Dr. King we are living God’s dream—Love your neighbor as yourself. And that is where the real issue comes in—most people do not love themselves. If you have not looked beyond, start today, and start by loving yourself—then others will follow. God set an example, Dr. King posted the challenge, so let’s strive to make that example and challenge a reality in our own lives.

Looking Beyond

God denies no one His love.

Only people deny other people love.

An old soul once told me this.

She was so very right.

People make others beg for affection.

They make others ask over and over for attention.

They feel stronger when others have to ask for a thank you.

And deny those that do not see the world

Or eternity the same as they do.

What makes these people think they can hold back love?

When they hold back love,

They can never be loved.

They can never have joy,

Because they cannot give.

Nor can they receive.

They cannot see beyond.

They cannot reach beyond.

God has no limits like these.

God sets no boundaries like these.

Why can we not find peace and comfort?

Because we cannot go past the boundaries.

We are not capable of looking beyond what we see.

Those of us that do look beyond what we see receive stigmas,

Because our gifts are frightening to others.

God looks beyond.

He looks beyond all our faults to see the goodness we all possess.

But we just have such trouble.

Looking beyond what we want to see.

I don’t want to see that worry.

I want to see the resolution.

I don’t want to see that problem.

I want to see a solution.

I don’t want to see that angry soul.

I want to see their hurt so I can help.

I don’t want to see the pain.

I want to see the joy.

I don’t want to see the abuse.

I want to see the love.

I don’t want to see the lies.

I want to see the truth.

I don’t want to see the fear.

I want to see the hope.

I don’t want to see the crying.

I want to see the laughter.

God help me to keep trying to look beyond.

So I can really see.

So I can see the light that denies no one the love, especially me.

 Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

Look through, look out there, and look within this week. There is so much more for each of us if we will only practice loving! Thank you so much for reading with me this week. I hope love fills your heart and soul this week.

Crystals

Crystals II

Nature has brought us wonderful scenes over the past week! The cold has brought spectacular visions of jewels all across the land! The frost and the ice that form on the Earth’s surface makes for the most amazing light show helping us feel we are planted in the middle of diamonds or emeralds or sapphires! It also reminds us that beneath what appears cold and barren can really be warming and giving. Our perspective has to be open to witness the miracle. Look inside something or someone you may feel is cold and barren this week. Be ready to see the blessing that may be offered when you are really ready to view the crystals they have buried inside!

Crystals

Is it diamonds I see?

The lights sparkle.

The space gives way to jewels amongst the weeds.

It is as if I can see through them,

Yet they reveal all by watching them.

One light turns into another light.

Even though the cold permeates the air,

The light pierces through the air and creates visions of crystals.

Each crystal leading another soul through the grain and grass.

One is a diamond, one is an emerald, and another is a sapphire.

Although the growth appears colorless,

The crystals reveal all the colors of the brightest light!

Like a rainbow across the ground.

This fills my soul with warmth.

The light is not contained,

But spreads across the heaven and the Earth to be seen in another form.

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

We are given so many souls to reach and love this week. Some of these souls may not appear warm and giving, but remember we must be open to see what is inside and how our gifts can provide a new perspective. The light reflecting upon water always bears amazing colors and shapes!

A very special thanks to Matt Stonerock for getting our technology up and running again so that we could visit and share! You are a sparkling jewel in our lives!

Thank you so much for reading with me this week! I am blessed to have many crystals that sparkle and make my life an amazing trunk of jewels on and in this beautiful Earth!

Time and Space

Time and SpaceI am back! Sorry to have been away so long—major computer issues (sad face).  I have missed all of you so much. How ironic though because this week’s writing is about our perception of time and space. I cannot believe how the time has passed so quickly over the past month. I hope you have cherished each moment of each day especially with family and friends—because we are where we are suppose to be right now! Make the very most of that time. Do not count your blessings by the clock or calendar.  If you have not yet, start 2015 off riding a beam of light! Take in all that you can in this very millisecond—you do not want to miss any blessings that are meant to come your way!

Time and Space

Someday I wonder—

Time seems important yet so unnecessary.

I know my spirit is not where my body is,

But I do know that my heart is where my soul lies.

We don’t need time to tell us who we are,

Yet we number our years, our days, our hours, and our minutes.

The sun disappears in one spot and reappears in another.

Rainbows seem to have an ending and beginning,

Yet the ending and beginning are only real to the visual beholder.

If I could ride a beam of light in all its color,

I could go on forever!

Is time real?

Some days it is real,

And other days it is not,

But today is where we are in time.

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

Hold in your soul and heart all that you experience on your light beam ride! I wish all the wonderful new year blessings that God will have for you and your family. Thank you for taking time to read with me this week. I am honored how you spend your time!

Those That Follow

Those That Follow supermanMy wonderful, middle son celebrated his birthday this weekend. I could not help but to reflect upon his childhood and his love for the superheroes. I can remember him dressed in either his Batman, Spiderman, or Ninja Turtle costume, standing on the couch or a higher surface, to swoop down and save the world! I was so proud of his courage and faith to make those jumps. Immediately I thought how he is now displaying that faith by leaping to help others. He is not doing this in his home any more, but rather in his world. He reflects that mankind always honors helping others and coming to their assistance. And that these individuals are our real heroes and heroines! So this week make sure and thank your superhero!

Those That Follow

When your hope has been filled into the dreams of others,

They stand a little taller,

They walk a little stronger,

They speak a little louder.

You can never live through another,

And you would not want to.

But the gratification of another soul shining

And exploding into the world makes you feel they take part of you with them.

Not just genetically, but spiritually.

They are scared but proceed with confidence

Because you have given them a safe place to go.

They are being primed to help others.

They will touch the world with their own energy

In order that humanity becomes a better condition.

They share the compassion they have for others

And the help they want to provide.

Your hope explodes!

Because God has given you one small peek into the future!

A future filled with the glory of mankind.

Mankind being better because you were willing to give yourself for someone else.

Those that follow–stand tall,

Push your chest to the sky,

Speak with God’s exhortations,

And march forward into the new world!

Lori Rennae Hickman Chapman

We can all be these heroes in our families and communities. How we do this may not look alike for each of us, but we can do our part. So do your part today in helping mankind be God’s true blessing!

Thank you so much for being with me this week! Look in the sky—it’s a bird—no it’s plane—no it’s you!! The superhero!!

Love,

Rennae
